FEU guns for 4th straight
By Lorenzo Manguiat Posted Jul 30th 2012
Surprise league leader Far Eastern University guns for their fourth straight win as they meet winless University of the East in the 75th UAAP men's basketball tournament Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Riding on the crest of a three-game winning streak, the Tamaraws are favored to cruise past the Red Warriors, but as their first three matches have shown, the Morayta-based squad is in for another close outing.
FEU has won by an average of two points, its biggest win a three-point decision over gutsy Adamson University last Thursday.
Coach Bert Flores has called each of their wins "lucky" as the Tamaraws needed clutch baskets from Ryan Roose Garcia, Mike Tolomia and then Terrence Romeo to seal their victories.
UE, meanwhile, showed a tougher fight against De La Salle University last week but their efforts, led by UAAP scoring leader Roi Sumang and top rebounder Adrian Santos, were not enough to score the upset over the Green Archers.
Sumang, who has normed 20.5 points per outing, is tipped to have a harder this time around, what with the three-headed guard corps of FEU expected to take turns hounding him from end to end.
